Hat Complete!

I finished my second knitting project and first hat.
I am very happy and proud of it.  I like how the ribbing turned out.  Genevieve helped me sew up the seam and it was very exciting to have it all come together.
I wore it the rest of the evening.

Bubble Tea

I always liked bubble tea.
But sometimes it could be too overly sweet.  Since Ben found out where to buy the bubbles and straws we have been having it a lot at home.  I have been enjoying it even more without the extra sugar.
Bubble tea is one of those things that you really like or really hate.
I really enjoy the bubbles coming up the straw.  It is like a drink that is also a snack.

Wax Carving Class Part Three

We started making a puffy heart.  We carved both sides; in the end it will be hollow.  I am hoping that this will lead to figuring out how to make a locket.

My First Knitting Project Complete!

I made a cowl!
I am very happy with it, I really like how chunky it is.  It is very warm and cozy.  It was easy to make and knitting in the round was fun and no seams!
I think I will wear it everyday.
I used this pattern to make it.

Wax Carving Class Two

Second Class - lots of measuring and careful carving.
We worked more on our bands measuring out notches to make a pattern.
I am really liking learning technical skills.  You can do a lot with simple measuring tools if you know how to use them correctly.  There are a lot of "ah ha" moments of discovering - oh that's how they do that.

Bim Bim Bop Dinner

Bim Bim Bop is one of my favorite Korean dishes.
It has rice, beef, vegtables, and egg all in a hot pot.

Bim Bim Bop with Bulgogi - marinated beef

You have to stir everything up together as all the ingredients keep cooking in the hot bowl.
Very tasty.

Passing on the Knit

Genevieve is teaching me to knit and I am teaching Ben.
He is doing a great job - very neat stitches.
I guess that leaves Ben to teach Mr. Norrell.

Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday Ben!

I couldn't find Mr. Norrell

Turns out he was hiding under a coat, on some gloves on a book on a bench.

Dinner Quiche

Ben made quiche for dinner
and I was lucky to eat it.

Natural History at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens

The Brooklyn Botanical Gardens currently has a sculpture made by Patrick Dougherty called Natural History.  They were made by weaving together saplings.  I like how they look in the snow.  They remind me of the huts in Where the Wild Things Are.

Snowboad/Skiing

On Sunday we went to Hunter Mountain for some snowboarding (Ben and Nick) and Skiing (Me).  It was a beautiful day and we had a lot of fun.  The three person chairlift was empty of lines and we did lots of runs.  Today I am sore and exhausted even though I passed out right when we got home and got more than 9 hours of sleep.

Cigar Silk Smoking Jacket

slideshow

slideshow

I really like watching the Antiques Roadshow on PBS and seeing what treasures people find in their houses.  I really love this smoking jacket that was made out of cigar ribbons made in the 1880s-1890s by the woman's great-grandmother for her husband.  I love the way the ribbons are stitched together with colors coresponding.

Trip to the Natural History Museum

We had both independently been thinking it was time for a visit to the Natural History Museum.

So we went.

We learned about Space.

 Saw lots of mammals.

A nautiloid, a squid like mollusk with tentacles and a long shell lived 450 million years ago.

The blue whale
It is always amazing to see the size of it; the largest animal that ever lived.

 Lots of fossils.
 Triceratops
And the always popular Tyrannosaurs Rex.
I can remember when they used to have it positioned standing up straight with its tail dragging on the ground instead of bent over with its tail in the air.

And now Birds are dinosaurs!

There is so much to see we are already planning another trip.

Knitting!

I got my friend Genevieve to give me a knitting lesson in exchange for cake.
I learned a bunch of stitches including cables.  I am going to do more practicing and then we are going to make a project.
I am so excited for knitting!

John Gabriel Borkman

We went to see John Gabriel Borkman written by Ibsen at BAM.  It stared Alan Rickman, Fiona Shaw and Lindsey Duncan.  It enjoyed it very much.  We always go for the cheap seats in the balcony which is very high up so that you are looking down on the play from way above.  The set reminded me of Doctor Zhivago with all the snow along the edges of the house interiors.  I have been thinking about that movie lately anyways; I think I will have to watch it again soon.

Wax Carving Class class 1

The fruit of my first wax carving class.  I carved a band from a block of wax.
