Great-Grandma Catherine's Knitting Patterns

My grandma gave me some of my Great-Grandma Catherine's knitting patterns.  They are so great!  All the patterns have sizes for men, women, and children.  I am loving the men's cardigan sweaters so I am glad there is women's sizing included.  There are also notes and handwritten patterns tucked in.  My grandma told me the first thing she knit was argyle socks; the pattern is in one of the pamphlets but I think I will stick with the basic socks for now.  One of the patterns looks similar to a sweater I have that my great-grandma Catherine  knit for my mom.  I wish she could give me some tips.

Infinity Scarf

I made an infinity scarf, it took a lot more yarn then I thought but it is very think and warm.
It knit it with moss stitch put a twist in it and seamed it together with kitchener stitch.
I learned the kitchener stitch when I was making socks but, it was a lot more difficult on a much longer piece.
It took a long time to attach the ends.

I am happy with how it turned out and it should keep me warm the rest of the winter.
Also, I clearly like grey.

All Bundled Up

It has been so cold.
I made the hat, cowl, pin and rings.
Hopefully soon I will make my own sweater as well.
I like wearing things I made myself, it is very satisfying.

Knitting Socks

Over Christmas I learned how to knit a sock.
I used the magic loop method which I really enjoyed.  I have previously tried making baby booties on double pointed needles and it did not work out, the stitches were loose where the needles came together.  With the magic loops all the stitches came out nice and even in the round.
I used this video on Knit Picks.
It was very useful to have a video to follow along with instead of just a written pattern, some parts seemed confusing at first but as I followed along it all came together.

The sock feels very cozy and will be perfect to wear with my new boots.
Now on to sock number two!

Provisional Cast On

I learned how to do the provisional cast on.
Now I am on my way to a seamless loop scarf.

The crochet hook was pretty fun, I might have to do more with it.

Currently Knitting

I am working on my first long term knitting project.  After many attempts my gauge is still a bit off so I am hoping the pieces are going to end up fitting together okay and not be too wonky.
For now I am enjoying moss stitch and my new size 2 bamboo needles.

Ben's new hat

I finished knitting Ben his new hat.
The color is a blue-green-grey.
I tried doing a two stitch rib this time and I think it worked out pretty nicely.

Hat Complete!

I finished my second knitting project and first hat.
I am very happy and proud of it.  I like how the ribbing turned out.  Genevieve helped me sew up the seam and it was very exciting to have it all come together.
I wore it the rest of the evening.

My First Knitting Project Complete!

I made a cowl!
I am very happy with it, I really like how chunky it is.  It is very warm and cozy.  It was easy to make and knitting in the round was fun and no seams!
I think I will wear it everyday.
I used this pattern to make it.

Passing on the Knit

Genevieve is teaching me to knit and I am teaching Ben.
He is doing a great job - very neat stitches.
I guess that leaves Ben to teach Mr. Norrell.

Knitting!

I got my friend Genevieve to give me a knitting lesson in exchange for cake.
I learned a bunch of stitches including cables.  I am going to do more practicing and then we are going to make a project.
I am so excited for knitting!
