Honeycomb Statement Necklace

I am busy working on a bunch of pieces. I had made a large honeycomb necklace a long while ago but I was not quite happy with it so I never put it in the shop. I am having another go at it and hopefully I will be able to fix all the things I didn't like about the first one. I am happy with how it is coming along so far.

Honey Comb in the Shop

The first two pieces from the honey comb collection are now in the shop.

Golden Honey Comb Ring

Honey Comb Charm Necklace

The Honey Comb Collection was inspired by a friend who started keeping bees. She wanted a gold toned bracelet to wear to her brother's wedding and after some brainstorming I came up with using a honey comb pattern to form the bracelet. We both loved the idea and after receiving actual honey bee comb from my friend I began to experiment. I used a combination of the actual honey comb and casting wax to form the pieces in this collection.

These pieces were cast in brass but are also available in silver.

Currently Working On

Honey Comb Necklace Wax Carving

I have been working with actual honey comb and hard casting wax for the honey comb collection I am currently working on.  This piece is going to be a large statement necklace which really shows off the geometric patterning of the honey comb.  I was inspired by the current trend of collar necklaces while incorporating in my own style with the comb.

I am really excited about this one!

More Honey Comb

I got the first honey comb bracelet cast and I am really happy with how it came out.  It still needs a lot of finishing work, sanding and polishing but, it is coming along.  I love the organic shape and the depth of the comb.

I am trying another bracelet.  This one is going to be a bangle.  I am making it a lot thinner too so it is lighter on the wrist.  This one is also entirely casting wax that I built up on top of the comb and then pulled off.

I am having a lot of fun experimenting and I am going to try a few more versions.

Earrings of one or two cells might be fun to do as well.

Making a Honey Comb Bracelet

My friend Kate who is a bee keeper gave me some honey comb to experiment with for jewelry making.
I played around with is all weekend trying to figure out how to cut, mold and piece it together.  The honey comb was very brittle and squishable at the same time which was a bit of a challenge to work with.  But, it was a lot of fun to play around while enjoying the honey smell.  I ended up molding the comb into a bracelet and adding lots of casting wax to it.  The result was a very cool looking organic shape.  I am looking forward to seeing how the casting will turn out.
