Some Food from the Weekend

I have been eating nothing but take out due to very long hours at work.  My body is not reacting well to all the salty and fatty foods so this weekend I tried to eat pretty healthy.
Including quinoa salad.

Roasted vegetables with lentils.
and pie?

There was also a lot of oatmeal and Ben made hummus and vegetables.

Hopefully this week will bring getting home for dinner and better food options.

Taking some new jewlery photos

I took some new photos for my shop with the help of a lovely assistant.
I liked how shadow looked against the wall.

Outdoor Treats

The weather was so nice this weekend we decided to sit outside with our coats and hot drinks on Sweet Melissa's patio.  We each had a cafe au lait and a bee sting.  I am very happy with this warmer weather and hope it continues...  I hope to continue with the tasty treats as well.

Ben's new hat

I finished knitting Ben his new hat.
The color is a blue-green-grey.
I tried doing a two stitch rib this time and I think it worked out pretty nicely.

One Little Sale

I got my first sale on my etsy store.

It was very exciting,  I got everything all wrapped up and sent out.
It was fun to put it all together,  I hope it is a fun package to unwrap.

Funny Story

So at Christmas time I had been discussing a book with my mom that I had read when I was little about Native American Indians living in New Jersey.  It was a historical fiction book and really good, but it had gotten lost from out collection and we couldn't remember what it was called.  I remembered about it when I got home and with the power of the internet was able to find it.  It was called The Indians of New Jersey: Dickon Among the Lenapes and I ended up ordering it for my mom for her birthday.  I also mentioned it to Ben and asked him to get it for me from the library.  The didn't have it in the Brooklyn Library System so he put a hold on it in Manhattan.  This is a small press book from Rutgers University Press, not a best seller, not a book a lot of people are reading, so there were only a couple of copies in the system, and Ben had to wait for one to become available. During this time, Ben met up with his father and brother around Union Square for lunch one day. Afterwards, he and his brother both had errands to run nearby, so they did them together. One of the things Ben needed to do that day was return some books to the library, and pick up a movie that was on hold for him, and Sam had to return a book too, so they went by the library to do that. Sam didn't need to pick anything up, so he waited in line to return his book while Ben got his movie from the hold shelf. When it was his turn at the circulation desk, he noticed a copy of The Indians of New Jersey sitting on the counter, and assumed it was the copy he had put on hold. When he told the librarian that, however, Sam was surprised and said that he had just returned that book right then...Turns out that Sam had one of the 2 copies in the system checked out, and had to bring it in that day because he could no longer renew it because Ben had put a hold on it. We hadn't discussed this book with him at all, and it seemed completely bizarre that he had been reading it right then. Fortunately he was finished with it, so Ben didn't feel so bad about taking it from him. The librarian probably thought they were both really strange.

The book in question...

Guest Blogger! Cooking with Ben.

Hello! I am guest blogging today, as Catherine is overwhelmed with work. Last night for dinner I made some roasted vegetables...Cauliflower with balsamic vinegar, and sliced potatoes. They go with a secret sauce that is basically my attempt at brava sauce. Also there was quinoa. I started making this dinner in the fall when we were getting excellent cauliflower and butternut squash from the local farmer's market...but even without the squash it is good, and super easy. Unfortunately, I had to eat it alone because Catherine didn't leave work until after 10:30.

Potatoes just out of the oven.
Everything all together.

Art and Music

Last week we went and saw Guster play a show at the Met while artist Jon Sarkin created a work of art on stage.  The theater at the Met is really great and the show was really great.  It was all acoustic and they added some strings which sounded great.  This video is of the last song they preformed; you can see Sarkin's work in the background.

Chocolate Chip Cookies!

Cookies are my favorite things to bake.  Using the stand mixer is always highly enjoyable.  I like to use the mini chocolate chips; I feel like you can cram more chips into each cookie and the chocolate gets more melty.
So good just out of the oven - I give myself a stomach ache by eating too many every time but, it's worth it.

Paper Cranes

I made a kind of mobile with all the origami cranes we had left over from our wedding.
The bright colors of the origami paper are so wonderful.
I love going to all our friends and families houses and seeing them hung up.  So now we have a massive strand.  I cut off all the cranes that had been tangled into a big mess and restrung them into a dense cluster and hung it on the window.
